It’s hard to be a woman!!. You must think like a man, act like a lady, look like a little girl and work like a horse!!
Truth is out, Indian women are most stressed, says Nielson survey.
“STRESS”, being one of the common and popular word today, has become universal in the milieu of mutual discord, work load, bottleneck competition and quest to win the race. While stress is prevalent from a school going kid to a company’ CEO , from a common man to the most popular celebrity, from all-rounder home maker to versatile office going lady it hasn’t spared anyone irrespective of age and gender .
Stress although being universal, women have been found to be more vulnerable to stress and fall prey to it more easily. According to “Harvard Business Review” and “Women of Tomorrow”, a Nielsen survey of 6,500 women across 21 countries state that Indian women are the most stressed in the world today. As per survey, 87% of Indian women said they felt stressed most of the time, and 82% reported that they had no time to relax. Not surprisingly, the most stress is felt among women between 25 and 55 years of age, who are trying to balance demanding careers with obligations at home.
The truth is women add all their new roles without crossing anything off their list and they are perfectionist. Clean house, Healthy dinner for the family, fit, trim and well-groomed and a full-time professional. Women are more social in the way they cope up with stress and tend to keep emotions inside, while men are more likely to deal with stress with a fight or flight reaction.
Work Life Balance
The swing of work-life balance is also critical for Indian working women. She tries to accommodate and balance her roles between traditional Indian values at home and the Oh-So-Modern professional, which is kind of impossible task accomplished due to unending expectations and disappointments. Ambitious Indian women frequently feel the need to over compensate their work for prior commitment and to survive tough competition. At the end of the day, she doesn’t have time for herself and to relax her mind, thus end up being stressed out and over-burdened.
Is Society Responsible?
Socially, women are burdened with greater responsibilities. Indian women are pulled by demands as they attempt to conform to the paradigm of “ideal daughter,” “ideal wife,” and “ideal daughter-in-law.” Her confidence, willingness and ambition are sometime over judged by the society surrounding her with negative ambiance. To be able to grab equal opportunities at work she must prove herself equal to her male counterparts, but hardly any equality is offered, in responsibility sharing at family front. This leaves women hurt and struggling.
Women’s stressful situations if not addressed properly, can lead to genuine health issues, both mental and Physical, like acute Depression, Anxiety, Cardiac issues, Hair fall, Gynac problems and so on.
What to do?
Exercising is a must. Meditate regularly to control your emotions and the mind. Sleeping is a great way to rest and heal both your body and mind.
